Just like the paper notebook Labfolder is a place where you can store all relevant information. To provide a single platform for all your research data, it enables you to upload all file formats into your ELN whereas Word, Excel, images, PDFs can be directly viewed in the notebook.

With the free version of Labfolder, you have 3GB available for your projects and data. By upgrading to the Advanced Version you will be granted up to 300GB of storage per user.



Work with PDFs

  1. Open the uploading dialogue by clicking on the paper clip icon in the element toolbar or drag the symbol to the place where you want the file to be displayed.

  1. A new window will open to display the upload options. Choose a file and confirm or simply paste the image from your clipboard.

  1. The name and size of the PDF are displayed in the entry element.
  2. Click the eye icon to browse the document.

  1. The document view also offers the possibility to either download or print the document (by clicking the corresponding icons in the upper right corner).


Tip: Did you know that Labfolder's advanced search technology identifies keywords inside PDFs and other documents?



Work with MS Word documents

  1. Open the uploading dialogue by clicking on the paper clip icon in the element toolbar or drag the symbol to the place where you want the file to be displayed.

  1. A new window will open to display the upload options. Choose a file and confirm or simply paste the image from your clipboard.

  1. Uploading a Microsoft Word file will show you the name and the size in an entry element.
  2. Click the eye icon to browse the document.

  1. The DOCX document can be downloaded by clicking the download icon.


Note: Labfolder only supports the extraction of Word files with .docx extension (Office 2007 and superior).


Preview and extract MS Word documents

File content may be added to the entry in a sorted way. Start extraction by clicking the arrow icon in the upper right corner. The text, tables, or images, of the Word document, will be split and converted into corresponding Labfolder entry elements which may then be re-arranged as convenient.


Work with MS Excel spreadsheets

  1. Open the uploading dialogue by clicking on the paper clip icon in the element toolbar or drag the symbol to the place where you want the file to be displayed.

  1. A new window will open to display the upload options. Choose a file and confirm or simply paste the image from your clipboard.

  1. When you upload a Microsoft Excel file, the name and size of the file are displayed.
  2. Click the eye icon to preview the content.

  1. The XLSX document may be downloaded by clicking the download icon.


Preview and extract MS Excel documents

Table content may added to the entry directly. Start extraction by clicking the arrow icon in the upper right corner.

 


Note: Labfolder only supports the extraction of Excel files with .xlsx extension (Office 2007 and superior).


Work with an image (TIFF, PNG, JPEG)

There are as many as seven options for image files (as represented by their respective icons): You may (a) reposition, (b) annotate, (c) rotate, (d) preview, (e) zoom, (f) download, and (g) delete files (recoverable from history).

  1. Open the uploading dialogue by clicking on the paper clip icon in the element toolbar or drag the symbol to the place where you want the file to be displayed.

  1. A new window will open to display the upload options. Choose a file and confirm or simply paste the image from your clipboard.

  1. After inserting, images are displayed at 50% of their size to ensure quick loading.


Note: The image will be immediately displayed for all tif, jpg, png, gif, or bmp formatted files.


Tip: Use the eye icon to visualise the image in a dialogue with its original size and resolution.

Adjust the image size within the entry element using the zoom tool (magnifying glass icon).


Annotate and download an image

Edit the image by clicking the pencil icon on the top right corner of the image element. The image will open in a pop-up. Use freehand drawings, geometrical shapes, or text to annotate your image.


Note: Depending on the file size, the annotated image might be compressed.



Tip: Annotations are stored on a separate layer. You can choose to download the original image or the image with your annotations.
