It is recommended that the installation be done in a new VM. This process is a migration between different environments. It is not an upgrade.
None of the components of the current installation will be used anymore. However, we do not have a cleanup process for the old components. If you decide to use the same VM, it will be heavier than necessary due to all the old components, which brings more complexity to the table.
